eBay Motors (Finally) Offers Download-Worthy App

Ever since I can remember, I’ve wanted to find a 1st Generation Subaru BRAT to restore. The trouble is, BRATs are typically beaten to death and not often offered for sale until a hard-earned 200,000 plus miles have passed. Finding a salvageable and reasonably priced BRAT has become something of a lifelong quest. That’s where eBay Motors comes in.

Unfortunately, though, generation after generation of the company’s iPhone application have made BRAT hunting no more efficient. Then an update surfaced on June 9, suggesting version 1.5.0 would be different.

And, by golly, it’s good.

Version 1.5 of eBay Motors is vastly more user friendly, allowing swipeable images and a search tool which doesn’t cause constant irritation. If you’re feeling extra bold, individuals who download the free application can create a personalized Garage by scanning the VIN numbers from the makes and models which cohabitate your heart…or garage as the case may be.

Aside from the obvious downsides of sharing your personal VIN numbers with a network-connected mobile device, the upside to eBay Motors app Garage is that searching for parts and accessories is incredibly simplified when the exact vehicle is already on file. “The app has your details in the Garage so you can search eBay Motors for the right set and the right fit.”

But let’s say you’re also searching for a unicorn, like the Subaru BRAT. The eBay Motors app allows you to create a Dream Vehicle and constantly re-search the same vehicle as a saved parameter.

Still not convinced? Version 1.5 allows consumers to take or use a picture to search for vehicles currently on eBay. Photo search makes negotiating for a better price as easy as taking a picture. Gone are the days when car dealers only had to compete with local dealerships. Now consumers can search all of eBay for bargaining leverage in a matter of seconds.

Of course, Version 1.5 isn’t perfect. The whole user interface is a bit juvenile and refining results still isn’t as convenient as the real eBay Motors website. But this particular update is the first version of the eBay Motors app which is worth spending some time on. Coupled with the fact that the App Store download is free, and eBay Motors has become a satisfying, if not glamorous, iPhone experience.
