If you’re looking for a good Father’s Day gift, like the rest of us, look no further! Hemmings has a really useful Events Calendar that’ll keep you abreast of the latest goings on in the classic car show circuit. Since we’re Florida-based, here’s a rundown of a couple Florida car shows meant to delight dear old dad.
In Winter Springs, FL the Orlando Bowtie Club will be hosting a cruise on Friday, June 15, and Father’s Day show on Sunday, June 17. The cruise kicks off from Chick-fil-A and includes a free combo meal for all participants. But the Sunday show might be less appropriate for some youngsters – that is…if ‘Hooters and Hot Rods’ seems like a provocative gig.
Assuming a debaucherous title isn’t appropriate for pops, check out the 3rd Annual Crossroads Car & Truck Show in New Smyrna Beach on Sunday, June 17. The event is put on by Crossroads Christian Church and includes free lunch, goodie bags, awards, and giveaways for registered drivers. In fact, the whole show is billed as family friendly, including a kids’ play area – so this is your ticket to wholesome auto entertainment.
As you might have guessed, there are certainly more Father’s Day car shows spread all over Florida. But here are two, totally different, options to start the search for your local happening. And don’t forget to keep your eyes open the rest of summer. The internet and newspaper are a good start. Classic car shows are typically associated with regional clubs (like the Orlando Bowtie Club noted above), so jumping on a club email list might also open up a whole new world of summer fun.
Then, of course, August is just around the corner and Monterey Car Week. If dad is only impressed by the best, you might do yourself a favor and start saving now. And after ritzy galas, premium auctions, and luxury accommodations, visiting Monterey for a full week could get a wee bit pricey.
For the rest of us, a smattering of Hooterific and family appropriate events will just have to do. After all, nothing says summertime like a hot dog, straw hat, farmer’s tan, and the fragrant smell of burnt rubber in the air.
